INSTALLATION DIAGRAM

STARTING INSTALLATION

To avoid risk of electric shock in the event that any of your TV equipment has a safety fault, we strongly recommend that you switch off and unplug your TVs, Satellite receivers and VCR from the mains, until all connections have been made.

(Note: sometimes equipment has a power supply fault which does not become evident until the equipment has been turned off for a short time. On switch-on it will not then light up or it may make a "ticking" sound or flash its lights. This type of failure has nothing to do with the TVlink)

Step 1. Wiring

Start by installing UHF coaxial cable (not supplied) between the "RFout-2" connector on the back of your digibox and remote room (Second TV).

Step 2. Remote Room/Second TV

Fit the Infra-red Receiver in the remote room. This is only a few moments work.

Place the TV Link receiver on, or as near to, the TV as possible.

Connect the newly installed coaxial cable from "RFout-2" on the digibox into the  TV Link as shown.

Note: If you are using a second VCR in the remote room the TV Link must be connected to the aerial socket of the VCR, not the TV.

Plug the TV Link back into the TV (or VCR) aerial socket.  Your Remote Room installation is now complete. Ensure that the Receiver faces into the room and is visible from your viewing position.

Step 3 Digibox

Plug all equipment, including the digibox, back into the mains and switch on.

Using the handset select the Services menu by pressing the SERVICES button and choose the SYSTEM SET-UP option (4). From the SYSTEM SET-UP option, press 0 then 1, then press the SELECT button on the handset for the INSTALLER SET-UP menu. Choose the RF OUTLETS option (4) and select SECOND OUTLET POWER SUPPLY. Select ON and then save settings. Press BACK UP to return to TV Viewing. Check on your main TV that you can see all your terrestrial TV channels and the digital channels that you subscribe to.

WARNING: Changing any other details may cause set up problems.

Retune your second TV to ensure you can receive both the same terrestrial and digital channels  as you can on your main TV. In most cases, the digital channels will be viewed on TV channel 68. Refer to your TV manual if you are unsure how to retune your TV.

Step 4. Testing the system

Firstly check that all equipment in use before installation of the TV Link is working exactly as before.

Set both main and remote TVs to the SAT channel and ensure that the picture is OK on both sets.

Now take the remote control handset to the remote room and operate it. The green power LED on the TV Link Receiver should be lit and the handset should be pointed toward the Infra-red Receiver and used to change channels.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS

Problem

No digital channels available.

Solution

Check that the coaxial cable from the digibox (RFout-2) and the second TV are properly connected via the TV Link and your second TV is tuned to the correct channel for your digibox.

Problem

No terrestrial TV channels.

Solution

Check that the coaxial cable from the aerial is correctly connected in to the VCR and digibox, as described in your digibox User Manual.

Problem

You are unable to change channel on the digibox from second location Check that the green LED is lit on the TV Link receiver. The LED is on the front of the receiver on the remote TV. If the LED is not lit, complete the following.

Solution

1 : Check that you have changed the second outlet power supply option in the installer menu, as described in Step 3.

2: Switch off the digibox and disconnect the mains plug. After 10 seconds, replace the mains plug and switch the digibox on.

3: Check that there is a direct connection between the digibox and the TV Link with no other parts in line, for example, isolated wall plates or a distribution amplifier. If there are wall plates, check they are non-isolating. If necessary, replace with non-isolating wall plates. If there are distribution amplifiers, either use a bypass kit, or replace with a distribution amplifier compatible with the TV Link.

4: Disconnect the mains plug on the digibox and check the cable between the digibox and TV Link. In particular, check the coax plug connectors at either end.  Reconnect the mains on the digibox.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

Check Your Coaxial Plugs. The most common cause of problems is a poor connection between the digibox and the TV Link. Check that the coaxial plugs on the cable run to the remote room are correctly fitted, as shown in the diagram below.

Points to note:

Inner wire of coax must be firmly clamped in centre pin of plug. On plugs without a clamping screw, this wire MUST be soldered.

Braid wires must be clamped between outer body of plug and collet.

Also ensure that there are no stray strands of braid wire causing a short-circuit between inner and outer.
